Aquaman 2018 (A Supposed Great Movie)

Sigh, so here we are, again. DC rolling out another superhero movie. Let’s talk about it, shall we?

First and for most let it be known, here and now, that I will not be kind to this movie. Honestly, it was an eh movie. It wasn’t great but certainly not the worst. So if you’re looking for a review that’s going to praise this film than I am sorry but I am not the reviewer for you. I am going to give you my honest opinion on this film, which is that I think it’s overrated.

After Wonder Woman was released I had hope that maybe, just maybe DC could salvage themselves. I was wrong. Justice League, well, we’re just not going to talk about Justice League right now. When I first saw their casting choices for Aquaman I thought, okay maybe this will be decent. Then the teaser trailer dropped and I was like, hey this actually kinda looks good. Then, they shot themselves in the foot. They released their full trailer and you quickly realized they were giving a good bit of story and major action away. And then on top of it all, THEY BROUGHT BACK THE DAMN ORANGE AND GREEN BODYSUIT! Like I get that’s Aquaman’s thing and it’s from the comics and all that but come on, look at it.

LOOK AT IT! It’s so ugly and hideous, surely there was some way to make it look better than this. Jason Momoa is an attractive looking individual but he loses all sexiness in this horrid eye burning outfit.

Okay, moving on from that atrocity, let’s talk about writing. The writing is crap, there were so many action scenes. So many fights, duels, battles, and wars and it’s clear that that is where the studio dumped all of their budget. The writing suffered heavily in this film and was loosely put together to try and keep things afloat. I think it hurt Aquaman quite a bit. Instead of taking it’s time and building the character and us getting to know him like we did with Wonder Woman and Christian Bale’s Batman, they rushed it like they always do. We never got to explore him as a person or Atlantis and it’s people.

The ending is also a major let down, I’m not going to spoil it but it did absolutely nothing and made me feel absolutely nothing. The cut scene was BS too.

The acting was eh also. Momoa is a good actor and so is William Defoe, and they did the best they could with what they had. Amber Heard is okay, she’s not the best but she isn’t a bad actress by any means. The teenage Arthur, Black Manta, Black Manta’s father, and the half brother Atlantian were awful. Like truly awful, cringe-worthy performances.

All in all, I’d describe this film as one of those movies I’d watch on tv if there was absolutely nothing else on and I was bored. I wouldn’t pay for it, wouldn’t actively seek it out, and I certainly wouldn’t go see it again.

Hope this helps or amused you.

Signed, a disappointed fan who’s waiting for Bale Batman and Wonder Woman quality content from DC again.

Undertale 2 Game Chp. 1 Release! (Deltarune)

OKAY LISTEN UP! If you have ever played Undertale or seen someone play Undertale then you guys need to hop on this now! This isn’t going to be a long post about the game, that’ll come later. This is just to let you all know it’s a thing and you should go play it.

Chapter One is the only thing that’s been released now as a Halloween holiday treat, it was literally released yesterday. Toby Fox the creator asked for a period of 24hrs silence on the matter, so respectively I will not be discussing what I experienced in the game, however, I will mention the fact that this game was AMAZING. AND that it was only the first chapter.

Can’t wait to see more of this and see how it all ties in. Here’s the link to it, it’s completely free right now so go play the first chapter!

FanArt Friday! (10/19/18) (Theme: Critical Role)

Hello everyone! Been a while, I know, but I’m here still and I come bearing fanart! I’m splitting it into three categories: Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein, and I’m going to include a section further down that involves spoilers but it will have a large warning before it in case you don’t want to ruin it for yourself. I will more than likely make more Critical Role fanart posts in the future, this is just such a good show. Enjoy!

Critical Role (A new(ish) obsession)

So, if you remember I started playing D&D a few months ago right? Well, to get a better understanding I started watching Critical Role per a friend’s suggestion. I started with Campaign 2 per that same friend’s suggestion. That was a few months ago and I am now deeply invested.

For those of you who don’t know or I have heard of it but never knew what it was, it’s a show “where a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors sit around and play Dungeons & Dragons” Now for some of you that may not be your cup of tea but if you enjoy narrative stories or RPG style games then you will enjoy this. The stories are phenomenal and really well made. And the choices that the characters make really affect the outcome of the story and the events that follow.

So there is a lot of episodes in campaign one and they start out playing at a higher level as well. So if you want to start from the beginning of a level one game I’d start with campaign two (link for this first episode can be found right here). So let’s meet the cast, shall we?

Top left to the bottom right: Sam Riegel (Nott the Brave), Taliesin Jaffe (Mollymauk) Marisha Ray (Beauregard), Matt Mercer (DM), Liam O’Brien (Caleb Widogast), Laura Bailey (Jester), Ashley Johnson (Yasha), Travis Willingham (Fjord)

Now you may not recognize their faces but they voice some of your favourite animes, cartoons, and video games. This group meets and airs, every Thursday 7PM Pacific Standard Time and 10PM Eastern Standard Time. You can find them on Twitch, Alpha, VRV for the VOD, and Youtube. Thursday’s episode is uploaded to Youtube every Monday.

Campaign 2 is about a motley group of ragtag individuals coming together and fighting bad guys, facing impossible tasks, and going on wild adventures. The players explore the world the DM has built and meet characters in this world. Everything is pretty much on the spot improv because this is an RPG game. The actors come up with their own backstories for their characters though and slowly, bits and pieces come to light during the episodes. Their backstory helps shape how they play the game.

Back: DM, Left to Right: Mollymauk, Beauregard, Fjord, Caleb and his cat Frumpkin, Nott the Brave, Jester, Yasha.

This group of people bring these characters and world to life and make it such a wonderful and beautiful piece of art that they give us the privilege to be a part of. They do a lot of charity work to which I personally think is an amazing thing. You can find a list of all of their personal charities they’re involved in here on their fact page, but the big one that the whole group back is 826LA which is a non-profit writing and tutoring organization which helps a lot of kids and they even host D&D campaigns for the kids and teach them how to run a campaign and play.

The show is sponsored by D&D Beyond which is a really cool tool to build character sheets and keep track of all of your stuff, and if you’re like me and really bad at math, it does the math for you when you level up. I bring this up because there is a FANTASTIC animation that D&D Beyond did for this campaign and I geek out every time I watch it so I wanted an excuse to share it. If you were on the fence before about watching this then maybe this will help you.

You can’t tell me that wasn’t cool.

A Fantasy realm with dragons, monsters, magic, and all sorts of mischief and quests to be found. What more could you want? I binged this second campaign and got caught up so I could start watching it live and let me tell you it is a wild ride from start to finish. You won’t be bored I promise.

Here’s a link to their website, go check them out!

Studio Ghibli Fest 2018

Hey guys! I know it’s been a while, my apologies, but I thought you all should know about this!

Fathom Events has been putting this Studio Ghibli Fest on and it is GREAT. I went to it over the summer and then a few months ago they brought it back! They play one every month, towards the end usually. They’ve even expanded the number of participating theatres. (I’ll provide a link for this fathom event at the bottom). You can still catch some of the titles like Princess Mononoke which is this weekend 7/22 (Dub), 7/23 (Sub), and 7/25(Dub). Sunday’s showings are dubbed, Monday’s are subbed, and Wednesday’s are dubbed. There is a difference narrative wise between dub and sub, I took my mother to see dubbed Proco Rosso and my friend to see the sub version and it changed the story quite a bit. Either is great but I suggest seeing both if you can!

Ponyo, The Cat Returns, Porco Rosso, and Pom Poko have already passed but you can still make Princess Mononoke (July), Grave of the Fireflies (August), My Neighbor Totoro 30th Anniversary (September/October), Spirited Away (October), Castle in the Sky (November).

If you can’t make these showings, or the one you wanted to see has already passed, don’t worry. I’m sure they will keep doing these showings because the last round had Totoro, Spirited Away, and Castle in the Sky as well. So, they all cycle back through I think.

Tickets are $12.50 across the board for all ages (with whatever convenience fee if you purchase tickets online. Tip: If you have like an AMC card it will wave your online ticketing fee). For the big name ones like Spirited Away, Totoro, Castle in the Sky I would buy your tickets ahead of time. When I went and saw those three and Howl’s Moving Castle last summer we purchased tickets online and had to change locations once because the other theatres were sold out.

I’ve been taking my mother to all of these ever since last summer and it’s become a great mother/daughter thing we do every month. She’s never seen Studio Ghibli or anime before until I started taking her to these so she’s gotten to know my world more and it’s been a lot of fun for the both of us!

So grab a friend or family member, or hey, go by yourself if you’d be more comfortable and go check out this amazing event!

You can find all the showings here at Fathom Events GKids page. Have a great day guys!

Tattoo Thursday (Harry Potter)

Hello everyone, I thought Tattoo Thursday needed to come back and since I’ve been introducing my mum to Harry Potter and reading the books myself I thought this Tattoo Thursday should be dedicated to Harry Potter. Enjoy!

Hope you all enjoyed this post, if you couldn’t tell, I love the Marauders and I am indeed a Slytherin. I promise the next time I do a harry potter tattoo post (and there will be another time) I will include things from the other houses as well.

Have a great day!
