Anime Soundtracks

If you watch anime, then you know that it can have some of the best music. Especially they’re intro and outro music. In this post, I’ll share five of some of my favorite anime music with you (and perhaps persuade you to watch some of them).

  • One Piece – We Are

This was one of the first animes I had ever seen when I was a kid and this song is still one of my favorites. It’s upbeat, fun, and charming. The song perfectly reflects the core of the show and its characters. Pirates, superpower like abilities, and adventure. What more could you want? Honestly, if you haven’t seen One Piece you should go watch it.

  • Inuyasha – Change The World

Inuyasha was another one of my first animes and welcomes you into the world of fantasy with this bright and gung-ho song. It’s a hopeful little song that is just bursting with energy and feel (bit like the show itself). It’s sure to cheer you right up and brighten your day.

  • Blue Exorcist – all openings

Okay slightly cheating on this one, cos this video has all three openings themes but they are all just SO GOOD and I couldn’t pick one. These all have this sort of this breaking free vibe. They’ve got this nice catchy beat that just makes you want to dance (and we have, trust me). These ones are also incredibly fun to sing along to.

  • Mushishi – Shiver

Mushisi is one of the most beautiful animes that I have ever seen and it’s opening themes reflect that, but this one is my favorite one. It’s just so relaxing and inviting. You feel like you can just sink into the music and let it engulf your senses and transport you somewhere else. If you’re looking for something calm and relaxing then this is the way to go.

  • Bleach – D-tecnoLife

It was incredibly hard to pick just one because ALL the music from this show is just amazing. It was between this one and the first and fourth intro. (AKA go check them out) Again, just so many feels from this! It just gets you pumped up and gives you that I can take on the world type of feeling. It’s one of those that keeps you coming back to it.

Okay, so that’s all for today. I really enjoyed this one so if you guys like it I’ll do some more anime music ones and explore some more intros and maybe some outros and in-show themes as well. These are some really great animes so I highly suggest you go check them out. Have a great day guys!

Timothy Omundson and Why You Should Love Him

MV5BMTQwNTkzMjY5NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNDIyMzI4MTE@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,667,1000_AL_.jpg

Okay, so you see this man right here? Okay, this man is freaking amazing and one of my favorite actors. Now let me tell you why.

First off, he’s funny. Like really really funny, and not just on screen but off as well. He can sing and dance, like really well. Go watch the television shows Psych or Galavant. Galavant is a musical comedy that breaks the fourth wall and pokes fun at the classical fairy tales. Really great show. Psych is just a super funny show in general and there is a musical episode that showcases Timothy’s amazing vocals.

50194a8896c20a857eb1f0b3936a657c
King Richard from Galavant
Psych
Carlton Lassiter from Psych

SPN-Cain2But one of my favorite things about him is that while he can play the funny comedic characters, even boarding dopy at times (in a good way, I’m looking at you King Richard), he can play there very serious, powerful, and even frightening characters like Cain in the television show Supernatural.

And if none of those are enough for you he also made guess appearances on Warehouse 13, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Criminal Minds, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Deadwood, Fraiser, Seinfeld, and that really really cheesy Disney Channel Movie Luck of the Irish.

He’ll be playing God in the show Lucifer (which I stated in my last post, I LOVE this show)

Honestly, he’s an amazing actor, great person, and you just gotta watch some of the stuff he’s in. I promise if you’ll love him. If that’s not enough here’s a couple videos to change your mind.

Sorry for the Russian subs on this next one but it was the only way I could find the full version.

Go watch Timothy Omundson, he’s amazing. You’ll love him.

Have a great day guys!

It’s Good to be Bad (Villains too Great to Hate)

In every film you have the good guy(s) and the bad guy(s), and usually everybody loves the good guy… usually. There are some villains though that you love more than the good guy and then there are some that are just too great to hate. Now, among our merry little band I am the one that usually either sides with the villain or the villain is my favorite character so I will probably be more that a little bias to the characters on this list. Also, this does go beyond looks, if they’re good looking then that’s just a bonus. But anyways, here we go!

giphy (1).gif

  • Loki

Obviously I had to start with Loki. A Marvel villain that people just can’t get enough of. Now, the reason I love Loki so much is because he really did strive to be good. He tried to do what he thought was best for Asgard even though he went about it the wrong way. And I’m sorry but Odin was a crap father. You can’t just go into Odinsleep after dropping “hey you’re not my son, you’re actually the enemy’s son and I was gonna use you as a pawn and trade you for peace” on a kid. You just don’t do that! And! When Loki is hanging off the bridge and he says, “I did it for you! For all of us!” and his voice cracks at the end, what does Odin say? “No, Loki.” Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!?!?!? Your son is hanging off a bridge above a black abyss and that’s what you say? You fail Odin. I really hope Frigga beat the crap out of him for that. Anyways, Loki always wanted his father’s approval and then for Odin to just cast him aside like that is cruel. On top of all that, Tom Hiddleston’s performance of Loki is phenomenal and is the only reason I even own the first Thor film.

  • Khan

Khan from Star Trek: Into Darkness is a force to be reckoned with. His skills alone are something to behold, not to mention his superhuman biology. It does help that he is played by Benedict Cumberbatch. His silver tongue and the performance he puts on truly makes you feel for him in the beginning. But then, then he becomes scary with his precise killing and the blows he deals in his fight with Kirk. Him crushing that guy’s skull was terrifying but so cool to watch! He’s just really really cool and it makes it hard to hate him. I already liked Kahn back in Star Trek: The Original Series and this just made me like him even more.

  • Prince Nuada Silverlance

Nuada Silverlance is the crowned prince of the Clan Bethmoora elves from the Hellboy universe. Hellboy is an antihero story and honestly really really good, you should check it out. Anyways, here’s another character that yes he’s bad but he really makes you feel for him. He makes you feel for his plight and what he’s trying to do for his people. His skill with a blade is unmatched, his agility and speed is phenomenal. Plus, he’s just badass looking. Luke Goss’ portrayal as the banished prince is just fantastic. He really sells the character.

  • Pitch Black

Pitch Black, formerly known as Kozmotis Pitchiner in his human life, is the Boogeyman, also known as The King of Nightmares. Yes, it’s an animated film. Yes he’s not a flesh and blood character, but this does not make him any less of a good, well written character. Rise of the Guardians is actually a really great, underrated film that you all should watch. Voiced by Jude Law, the King of Darkness is creepy, manipulative, and evil. However, you can’t help but feel for him a bit. Pitch started off as protector and defender of the Golden Age. He was a Hero. He was tricked by the darkness, who used the voice of his daughter to lure him into setting it free, and overtaking him. Fast forward years later and people have forgotten the Boogeyman, years of isolation and disbelief made Pitch take action. What makes you feel for him is the fact that he just wants to be believed in. He just wants people to believe in him again. When you think about it more, the good and happy things in life cannot exist without the pain and fear. So, yeah, Pitch is someone that you can have problems saying he’s 100% a bad guy.

  • Bane

Bane is a DC villain, more specifically, a Batman villain. In the Dark Knight Rises version he is played by none other than Tom Hardy. This character is a big brute of a guy. He’s strong, skilled, and deadly. He literally broke the Bat. He could’ve killed him. But he’s not just a brute. He’s incredibly intelligent. He’s smart and cunning. Not only that, but there’s a piece of humanity in him. We see this when he’s in the pit and he protects others. There is more to him than what meets the eye. Plus, again, he’s an absolute badass and the mask makes him sound freaking cool.

  • Lord Sesshomaru

Sesshomaru is a villain but also not a villain. From the anime Inuyasha, he starts off as a villain in the beginning of the show but as time goes on, he becomes more of a frenemy, till finally he is now a, begrudgingly, good guy. You start off wanting to smack him, but the more you get to know about him the more you actually start to like him. His character development really make you like him more as you watch him go from being a cold and unfeeling ass to- well, a less cold and unfeeling friend. He is a terrifying opponent, skilled with a blade and his demonic abilities makes him a formidable foe that should not be messed with. He’s cool, like really really cool.

  • Joker

The Joker is another DC Batman villain. Now, there have been many version of Joker but I think that across the board that Joker is just a really cool character, I know I keep saying these guys are cool (they are though) but the reason Joker is so amazing is because he is chaos embodied. He just lets loose and watches the world burn just to see if he could. Havoc is his only reason for doing things. His weird and twisted mind makes him so intriguing, and dangerous. You wouldn’t want to be in the same vicinity as him, let alone meet him down a dark alley. He’s not a man to be trifled with or taken lightly.

  • Magneto

file_581306_x-men-days-future-past-poster-magneto.jpg

Magneto, also known as Erik Lehnsherr, from the X-Men Marvel world, is another character that just makes you feel for them. A mutant and a Holocaust surviver, he has suffered a lot of pain at the hands of bigots and humanity in general. His feelings are justified, his actions not so much. Played by both Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender, this man strives to bring mutants to the forefront of humanity. Not wanting his brothers and sisters to suffer he chooses to take the fight to the rest of humanity. Originally he was a good guy, he helped Charles Xavier build his school, helped him create the first X-Men. He was his friend. His humanity is there, it’s just been beaten and abused so much that it can’t take it anymore. All of this makes him tough to hate.

  • Victor Creed aka Sabertooth

Victor Creed, also known as Sabertooth, is, yet again, another Marvel villain. More specifically an X-Men baddie. (I like Marvel/X-Men a lot alright?) He has a healing factor, retractable sharp claws and canine-like fangs, superhuman strength, senses, and reflexes, feral feline attributes, and a seemingly endless life span. He went by many names including Slasher, El Tigre (The Tiger), and Der Schlächter (The Butcher). The brother (at least in the films) of the famous Wolverine/Logan, an assassin, mercenary, and murderer. He kills for hire and he kills for fun. He’s one of the more bloody villains on this list. His father kept him chained in a basement and pulled his elongated, claw-like nails out of his fingers consistently. He’s probably the least likable one on this list. However, I think he’s just too freaking amazing and cool to leave off. His cold, calculating demeanor is something the chills one to the bone. His strengths, abilities, and sheer power are something to behold and not to be tested. His animalistic nature is also something that draws you in, his love of brutal killing, of pain and death in general. His bloodlust. Is something that I find incredibly fascinating, especially in comparison to Logan. (This makes me sound like a psycho but I promise I’m not) Victor can be smart when he wants to, but his anger gets him into trouble some times. He can live in isolation, and he thrives in it even. Victor Creed is more than just badass, he’s scary as all get out.

Well, there’s my list of villains that I think are just too good to hate. Let me know what you think, agree or disagree. Who do you think belongs on this list? Let me know what else you would like to see. And have an amazing day guys!

Logan: One Last Time *SPOILERS*

logan-film-header-front-main-stage.jpg

Okay, so I just saw this film with my friend and I have to talk about it. Now, before we get into spoiler things I must say, if you haven’t seen it yet: Go. Now.

This is your last warning, SPOILERS AHEAD.

la-fi-ct-movie-projector-logan-20170227.jpgAlright, shall we then? This film wrecked me, it absolutely wrecked me and my friend. This film is absolutely phenomenal in the superhero genre, and to me it’s just amazing in general. It was raw and gritty. It didn’t pull punches and hits you like a freight train.

The dynamic between Xavier, Logan, and Laura was wonderful. Their performance was great and I cannot sing their praises enough. If you’re a huge X-Men fan like I am and you’ve been following the films for the last 17 years than this film will really really hit you. The character development of Logan, and Xavier even, is wonderful.

logan02.jpgNow, really delving into spoilers here. The relationship development between Logan and his daughter really destroyed us. That ending, God what an ending. Logan finally having that moment that Xavier talked about. It hurt, it hurt a lot. It hurt to watch her cry over him and call him daddy. It also hurt when Logan referred to Xavier as Pop.

Seeing Logan, hurting, not healing, limping, and coughing up blood was painful. So was seeing Xavier in such a weak, feeble, decrepit state. Then knowing that his seizures are what killed the other X-Men and that he couldn’t remember killed us.

logan-trailer-xavier--760x339

logan-credit-fox.jpgThis film is pain, and nothing but pain. But it’s the kind of pain that you can’t stop watching. Not out of some sick or twisted delight but because it’s that raw kind of pain that hit deep in your heart. The kind that you get when you watch an old friend fall apart. Because for us that’s what it is. Xavier and Logan are old friends that I’ve had since childhood, that I grew up with, and it hurt to watch them go through all the pain that they did in the film.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a phenomenal ending and it couldn’t have ended any other way, but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t hurt. It hurt to watch Logan have to pull his claws all the way out because he was dying. Another thing that I found interesting was the way that Logan interacted with Xavier, the way he took care of him. The way he and Caliban worked things out in that abandoned tank. He really took care of him, and he really loved him. He loved the old man and the old man loved him.

landscape-1476972414-wolverine-logan-first-trailer-xavier-sad

Wallpaper_Logan_1600x1200_JPosters.jpgLaura is like Logan in so many ways, and bravo to Dafne Keen for doing such an amazing job, but she looked so much like Logan in her movements, facial expressions, and piss off attitude. When she was sitting there eating cereal and the three men came in to get her, the glare she gave him was such a Logan look. She pulled it off very very well. Her anger, her stubbornness, her reserved compassion and heart. All Logan. The way she looked at Xavier, the way she interacted with him. They were her family, the family she never had.

This film was amazing, and we absolutely loved it. I highly suggest for anyone to go see it, but especially if you’re a superhero fan. I will say, as a warning, it’s not a kids film. It’s rated R for a reason, it’s incredibly violent and bloody and there’s a bit of language. I didn’t mind any of it all but blood and language doesn’t bother me. But if that’s something that isn’t your cup of tea then, be forewarned.

logan0002.jpg

Go see Logan, go watch this amazing, wonderful, phenomenal film.

10 Soundtracks For The Music Geek

Hello all! So, I don’t know about the rest of you but I love a good soundtrack. Film/Television music is what I study/work to. To me, the music always conveys so much feeling and emotion. So, today we’re going to look at 10 of, what I believe, are some of the best soundtracks. Links to these soundtracks will be provided. Enjoy!

1. Rogue One

mnzyrwtl

This soundtrack is near and dear to my heart. Star Wars has played a big part in my life, it was the first thing that I ever became a geek over. The music of the entire series is phenomenal but there’s something about Rogue One in particular that just captures my attention. It’s beautiful, haunting, lamenting, and hopeful. The album is composed by Michael Giacchino and if you love Star Wars or really if you just love beautiful music then I suggest you listen to this album.

2. Vikings

fbff0f9b18198168c5fe963946f28b8b

Vikings is a show that follows the lives of Ragnar Lothbrok and his family from peasant to king of the Vikings. The music reflects the themes of the show: dark, powerful, tense, mystical, eerie and beautiful all in one. It’s not for everyone for sure, but it has this way of drawing you in. I’d highly recommend it for fantasy and historical fantasy lovers. Travis Morris is the composer and you can find the first season’s album here.

3. Studio Ghibli

screen-shot-20140718_090556

Joe Hisaishi is a musical genius. If you have ever seen a Studio Ghibli film then you know just how amazing his work is. The music really helps shape the worlds you see and the characters you meet. I cannot sing this man’s praises enough. This music covers everything: beautiful, magical, creepy, lamenting, hopeful, fun, depressing. When I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. And that is why that I say his work is for everyone. Here’s an ensemble collection of all of his Studio Ghibli work, go listen to it.

4. The Lord of the Rings

fotrcd-cover

I couldn’t leave Lord of the Rings out of this. LOTR is by far one of the BEST soundtracks out there. Howard Shore blows your absolute mind away by creating such beautiful and inviting music. I’ll admit, a few of these songs have made me cry before. They’re THAT good. Any fantasy, or frankly any music lover in general, should listen to this album. And, if you like this then you should also check out The Hobbit soundtrack as well. (It should be noted that the links go the first films albums and not all three because I trust that you can find your way to the next one from there.)

5. Pride & Prejudice

0028947630883xr

Now, before you jump on me and say “this isn’t geeky!” hear me out. I’m a classics and literature geek as well as a Star Wars, Lord of the Rings geek. I love Jane Austen & Edgar Allan Poe as much as I love Doctor Who & Walking Dead. Dario Marianelli & Jean-Yves Thibaudet have created what I believe to be one of the most beautiful albums ever. It’s full of life, beauty, fun, love, and even sorrow. It’s incredibly moving music that takes you on a journey if you just listen and let it move. It’s not for everyone, but I honestly think everyone should give it a try at least once. For all you classical lovers, be it books, film, music, and for those of you who just love beautiful music, I highly suggest you give this album a go.

6. Doctor Who

SILCD1345 Dr Who Series 5 Cover.jpg

Doctor Who is another series with absolutely amazing music. Murray Gold is phenomenal and his music reflects the show perfectly: fun, quirky, painful, sad, hopeful, and so on. There is so much music for this show, and it’s all good and I highly suggest you listen to it all if you can, but for me the 5th series holds a very special place in my heart. The 11th Doctor is my Doctor, The Time of Angels & Flesh and Stone were the first Doctor Who episodes I ever saw. 11 and this series is what made me a Whovian, and the music played a large role in that. Every Doctor Who fan should listen to this but I really suggest it for any Science Fiction lover.

7. Gladiator

710FDXy1Z4L._SL1200_.jpg

If you don’t know Hanz Zimmer then we’re about to change that. Hanz Zimmer is right up there with John Williams and Howard Shore. If you don’t trust me, which is fine, then let me give you a glimpse of his track record: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lion King, The Dark Knight, The Last Samurai, The Thin Red Line,  Inception, 12 Years a Slave, and Interstellar. So, do you believe me now? This particular soundtrack is one of my favorites. It mixes haunting with beauty. You get the feelings or war, pain, sadness, determination, and in the end hope. Again, I highly suggest this for all you historical fantasy lovers out there.

8. Inception

9574648dade144d59e5f0fa1dfb637cc.png

Look, you got me started on Hans Zimmer and now I can’t stop. But for real though, this is another phenomenal album. The music is just absolutely gorgeous and moving. It sucks you in and you lost yourself to it. Time is one of my all time favorite songs on this album and if you’re doubting me, go listen to it. This album reflects the themes and feelings of the film, bending and twisting your mind as you go through this mind bending journey. I suggest this album for all music lovers in general because frankly I think it works for everyone.

9. Game of Thrones

Soundtrack_Season_1.jpg

Game of Thrones is another fantastic soundtrack series. The Main title alone hooks you. Ramin Djawadi does a spectacular job of bringing this series to life with his music. It’s full of what every fantasy series needs: the mystery, the battles, life, death, love, pain, treachery and the music conveys all of this. I suggest this for all fantasy lovers out there as a must listen to.

10. Pirates of the Caribbean

POTC2CS.jpg

I told you you got me started on Hans Zimmer! The Pirates of the Caribbean has some of the best soundtracks out there, and they’re all great. But, I find the second one Dead Man’s Chest to be my favorite. You should go listen to them all but here’s why the second one is my favorite, every single track is amazing. There’s not a single one that doesn’t draw you in and make you crave more. There’s action, creepiness, sadness, fear, everything. The Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack is for all fantasy lovers and for the historical fantasy lovers.

Okay! So, that was 10 soundtracks that I think every geek should hear. Now, these are all relatively lyricless ones, focusing purely on the music itself. So, if you would like me to do one that has lyrics like Disney or musical films then let me know! I hope you guys enjoyed this, let me know what else you would like to see, and have a great day!
