Okay, now before you shake your head at the title, hear me out. American Murder Song is, and I quote, “a collection of original Murder Ballads that explore history through a sensational rogues’ gallery of murderesses and cutthroats.” I promise it’s not as disturbing as it sounds. Bare with me. They’re dark, yes, I can’t deny that, but there is something about the music and lyrics that just sucks you in. If you read my post about Summer Film Recommendations then you may remember I suggested Repo! The Genetic Opera as one of the films you should watch. Now, while it’s not AS dark as Repo! it still possesses dark elements. And, this gem of a musical sensation is brought to you by the same people who did Repo! and The Devil’s Carnival. “Cult musical filmmakers Terrance Zdunich and Saar Hendelman welcome you to AMERICAN MURDER SONG. Embark with them on “a playful and murderous odyssey through the territories of American identity, looming mortality, and divine judgment””
It truly is playful, the music is never too dark or harsh, in fact, there are several that are quite upbeat and some that are very mellow. All in all, it’s a great time. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself. Here’s a link to the entire album’s playlist. I’ll even drop a few here on the post for your listening pleasure. I love the entire album so don’t ask me what my favorite is… but, I really do love I’m Always Walking as Somebody Else.
Now if you’ve made it this far into the post then clearly you’re interested. Now, you would do well to note that Misser’s Terrance Zdunich and Saar Hendelman are doing a reunion tour called The Donner Party. Now, what is The Donner Party you may ask? Well, I shall let the masters of their craft tell you themselves, “Feast on the fascinating tales of The Donner Party, America’s favorite cannibals, as they have never been told before. Discover the truth behind the bedraggled Party that emigrated west and devoured each other in the cabins by the frozen lake. Presented in cutting edge stereophonic sound. AWOOOOO!” Now if that doesn’t get you excited then how about a music video of one of the songs from The Donner Party?
Who doesn’t want to sing about cannibals, am I right? What? No one? Oh come on, don’t be shy, you know you had fun with that song. Anyways, this has literally been my jam for the last week since I discovered it, I highly recommend it for the lovers of dark things and history lovers you may want to a peak as well. Here’s a link to their website where you can check out tour dates, tickets, merch, and more.
Hope you all have a marvelous day, and remember, reserve your seat for the Donner Party while you still can.
