Shakespeare Sunday is a weekly event that the Hollow Crown Fans host on Twitter where they and their followers tweet favorite quotes from across Shakespeare’s work. (hollowcrownfans.com) Each week is either a different theme or it’s theme free. For example, say the theme is cooking. Your job is to find a quote from Shakespeare that fits that. “Tis an ill cook that cannot lick his own fingers.” Romeo & Juliet Act 4 Scene 2 would fit the theme.
“Ideally your tweet should have the quote, the hashtag, and the name of the play. Using abbreviations of your own is just fine. For example: Romeo & Juliet can be #RJ or Henry IV Part 2 can be abbreviated to #2H4. And if space permits the act/scene number (again, abbreviations are OK).” (hollowcrownfans.com) So lets look at our quote from earlier. On Twitter it would look like this: Tis an ill cook that cannot lick his own fingers #RJ #A4 #S2 #ShakespeareSunday. #RJ meaning Romeo and Juliet, #A4 meaning Act 4, and #S2 meaning Scene 2.
Now the start time or retweeting time for Shakespeare Sunday “starts Sunday morning London time and ends at 7pm New York/Eastern time. However, it’s your Twitter so you can start tweeting quotes as soon as it’s Sunday in your time zone but bear in mind we probably won’t see it outside of those hours.” (hollowcrownfans.com)
Shakespeare Sunday is just a fun thing for fans of Shakespeare or The Hollow Crown series to do every week. For those of you who don’t know, The Hollow Crown is a mini-series of adaptations of Shakespeare’s history plays: Richard II, Henry IV Parts One and Two, and Henry V. This series currently has one season and the second is currently being filmed. The first series stars Ben Wishaw, Jeremy Irons, and Tom Hiddleston. It also features some other very well known British actors including Sir Patrick Stewart. The second series will focus on Henry VI Part 1, Henry Vi Part 2, and Richard III. Benedict Cumberbatch will be staring as Richard the Third.
Personally, I love Shakespeare and The Hollow Crown series so this is just a fun thing that I can share with other Shakespeare fans. So if you are a fellow Shakespeare geek like me then I highly suggest that you follow @HollowCrownFans on Twitter and check them out. This Sunday’s theme is a free one, so pick whatever quote you want and remember to include the hastag: #ShakespeareSunday.
Let us know what your favorite Shakespeare quote is, and have a Happy Shakespeare Sunday!
